TRANSFER OF QUALIFICATIONS

The NCCP is transitioning away from delivering Level 1, 2, and 3 programming. Only coaches with Artistic Levels-NCCP qualifications will transfer at this time. Coaches with Trampoline and Rhythmic Levels-NCCP qualifications will transfer at a later date.

Artistic Gymnastics

In the fall of 2020 (date to be confirmed), your National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) qualifications in the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC)’s NCCP database, “The Locker” will be updated. NCCP programming for Artistic Gymnastics no longer includes Level 1, 2, 3, or 4. The NCCP programs for Artistic Gymnastics are called Gymnastics Foundations, Competition 1 (Introduction), Competition 2 (Introduction-advanced), Competition 3 (Development), and Competition 4 (Development-advanced).

If you are a coach with Level 1, 2, 3, or 4 Technical, Theory, or Practical components, after the date indicated above, you will notice that you have been given credit for the comparable current NCCP program. These credits will be identified as “Transferred” on your Locker transcript.

It is important to understand that training acquired in the Levels-NCCP will never be lost and it is not Gymnastics Canada’s intention to take away any training from our coaches. However, as the current program includes new important elements, including an evaluation component, it is essential to review what your status will be, and the next steps you will need to take.

In order to maintain the new status you will be given in the Locker, you will need to complete Make Ethical Decisions (MED) training and/or online evaluation within five years of the transfer taking effect. As such:

1. Coaches who are granted “Trained Transferred” status must complete, at a minimum, training in MED; or

2. Coaches who are granted “Certified Transferred” status must complete the MED online evaluation

NOTE: If you have taken the Gymnastics Foundations Theory course, MED training is delivered within the course and you will only be required to complete the online evaluation if you require certified status.

If you fail to complete the above MED requirement within five years, it will result in a “non-renewed” status on your Locker transcript, and you will need to contact Gymnastics Canada or your Provincial/Territorial Organization (PTO) to determine your next steps to renew your certification.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already taken MED training, and/or passed the online evaluation, you are not required to take it again.

In addition, recent changes in the NCCP include an emphasis on coaching ethics and recognizing professional development and ongoing training as being essential for coaches. As a result of the transition to the current NCCP program, all coaches with a certified status will be subject to Maintenance of Certification and will be required to obtain professional development (PD) points to maintain their certification.
