COACHING ATHLETES WITH A DISABILITY

“Approximately 14% of Canadians have a sensory, intellectual, or physical disability, and some of these persons may have more than one disability. To promote optimum health and quality of life, it is critical that all Canadians, with or without a disability, fully engage in physical

activity.” (Sport for Life, 2013)

As a provincial sport organization, we are committed to fostering and promoting diversity, inclusion, and access to gymnastics within our member clubs. We will accomplish this through increasing the number of people from diverse and under-served populations
participating in our sport.

We have compiled a list of education and training opportunities, resources, funding, and contacts in regard to Coaching Athletes or Participants with a Disability from organizations such as the NCCP, Special Olympics, Inclusion SK, and Sask Sport to name a few! If you are looking to develop more inclusive and accessible programming for people who may have physical, sensory, behavioural, or emotional disabilities, and expand your knowledge, this is a great place to start!
